“DIVERSITY ISN’T GENDER, ETHNICITY, AGE, RELIGION, OR SEXUALITY. DIVERSITY IS ABOUT HARNESSING RADICALLY DIFFERENT OPINIONS.”

With a keynote style that’s a mixture of warmth, empathy, insight, and humor, Karl creates talks on topics of vital importance that make people laugh, feel, and think.

Karl is currently speaking on two topics fuelled by his personal experiences.

A fresh take and human-centric DEI talk for the corporate world on how to reconcile the greatest issues of modern day business: the tension between our ever more divided planet vs the push for diversity. DEI is the greatest tool we have to solve every problem in every company… if we understand first the real truth of what DEI can give us all.

And secondly, Same-Sex Divorce 101 for Family Law practices about the differences between heterosexual and same-sex divorces - the things you need to know if you’re divorcing Same-Sex couples.

A WORLD OF UNLIKELY ALLIES

DEI

How do we reconcile the greatest problem we have in modern life - living in an ever more divided world that is demanding greater diversity and inclusion? How do we connect with the people we hate? Through the lens of his same-sex divorce, Karl lost his place in his own LGBTQ+ community and instead was thrust into a world of people he’d considered his antagonists and oppresors - straight men. This brotherhood of divorcing men taught him how to connect with people he thought he had nothing in common with. And in just a couple of months they became not just friends and allies, but the people he trusted the most. What Karl discovered is that we have completely misunderstood the whole point of DEI, and that there is a profound humanity at the center of it that would allow us to connect and collaborate freely - if we simply learn how to use it.

SAME-SEX DIVORCE 101

FAMILY LAW

Specifically for the Family Law Industry, this talk prepares Family Law practitioners with a primer for the same-sex divorcees walking through their doors in greater and greater numbers. While there are a lot of similarities between straight and gay divorces, there are massive differences too that gays and lesbians experience coming from a community with zero group knowledge of divorce and its “battle of the sexes” laws.

LGBTQ+ people experience different kinds of loss, shame, ideas of family, and equality that the current divorce law wasn’t written for. Plus Karl recommends getting in front of every LGBTQ+ divorce with the special appeal that pre-nups can have for same-sex couples.
